Review of Starbucks Bistro Box: Chipotle Chicken Wraps

Between the rain and therefore a shorter walk combined with the appealing, yet unwanted protein shake powder at my desk my lunch options were slim today. And, I’m trying to lose weight (when am I not?) so the deli downstairs was off limits too- the plantains and meatloaf at the hot food bar were too tempting, not to mention the spinach pie that was whispering my name. I needed something that told me the (caloric) damage up front so I could plan out the rest of my day.

So I ducked into the Starbucks around the corner and checked out the Bistro Box options I see there every morning. Say what you will about Starbucks, but I am a fan. I even have the mobile card app on my phone. I feel like the Jetsons paying for my coffee with the scan of a phone…Anyway as I was saying, everything I’ve ever tried there from breakfast sandwiches, to egg salad to those apple fritters has been tasty. There are a few boxes to choose from; I opted for the chipotle chicken wraps.

I got back to my desk and opened up the clear box looking to see what treasures I would find. There were 3 whole wheat wraps, sliced chicken breast on a bed of Romaine lettuce, triangles of pepper Jack cheese, avocado studded salsa, a cool cilantro-lime slaw and even a square of dark chocolate for dessert. In fact the only thing missing was a little fork for the slaw.

Individually, every item was very fresh and flavorful and they really came together to create a delicious lunch. The slaw was crisp and I could detect the notes of lime. It was creamy without being drenched in dressing, but it could have used a touch of salt. The chicken was moist, smokey from being grilled and cut into these strips that tucked nicely into the wrap. Pepper Jack is one of my favorites and it was piquant paired well with the chicken. The salsa was surprisingly good. It was like a little container of Christmas! I wasn’t sure that the avocado was going to hold up to that much acidity but the acid kept the avocado from turning brown and the avocado added a smooth texture to the salsa. I was so excited about my lunch and the subsequent pictures I was taking that I angled the wrap towards me and a spray of salsa squirted onto my shirt. This was also the one day I chose beige instead of black.

This particular Bistro Box was 380 calories, 15 grams of fat, 6 grams of fiber and 26 grams of protein. Having something pre-portioned with the nutritional facts already on it makes me feel more in control of my meal. But, don’t take my word for it, go try a bistro box, just make sure to have a fork or spoon (or a spork!) to scrape up all the slaw and salsa. Enjoy!

I just had one of this yesterday and it was fantabulous. I usually don’t enjoy Starbucks but was quite impressed. Everything was tasty and enjoyable and am planning to recreate them soon.

I just got an email about these new box lunches and the chicken chipotle appealed to me. As Starbucks website does not have the price, I was wondering if someone could tell me how much it is. It would be greatly appreciated.

I really enjoyed the chipotle chicken wrap today and searched to see what other folks thought. Your review is right on. I didn’t detect smokiness in chicken, but the chicken was certainly fresh, the sauce was spicy and assertive, the cheese was hearty, and the lettuce was surprisingly crisp. Good lunch. A good review!

Hi! I’m new to your site. very nice. will absolutely return. I enjoyed your review. I too am a Starbucks fan. My review was no where near as detailed. I am trying to recreate this box this weekend for lunches this week. Depending how they turn out, I’ll post on my site. Take care!

    1. Thanks so much for the nice words. I’m sure your boxes are going to be great! Have a great week

  5. Great review, Krista! I just gave the Sesame Noodle box a try and loooved it. The Chicken Lettuce wraps were definitely my second choice. I’m glad that you mention the need for a fork…I learned that one the hard way and had to go back and ask for one. My husband and I just posted our review of the bistro boxes here:
